Jean-Pierre MONSERE
The 63rd edition of the Giro di Lombardia was held on October 11, 1969.
Young Jean-Pierre Monsere (Flandria) was quickly becoming a superstar. The talented Belgian rode prominently in the 17 rider lead group. At the finish in Como Gerben Karstens sprinted past Monsere and defending champion Herman van Springel for the apparent victory.

Karstens was later disqualified after a positive doping control test. 21 year old Jean-Pierre Monsere (Bel) became the winner of the 1969 Lombardia.
SPECIAL NOTE: After his first major victory at the 1969 Lombardia, Jean-Pierre Monsere went on to win the 1970 World Road Race Championship. Tragically, while on a training ride in March 1971, Monsere died after colliding with a car.
